BSOW: Pimping Out My Little Red Dress

Y'all have missed my Best Scoop of the Week, haven't you? I've missed my ice cream too!! This week, I'm getting my red dress out and going out on the town with the featured blog....

Brought to you by:

You ever get an idea, like you think, "Wouldn't it be cool if...." and then you decide you need to rope someone into doing it too because it's just a lot more fun to share your idea with a fellow blogger who you know is going to be just as excited as you?

Yes? Then you'll get how it was when I thought it'd be pretty cool to form a virtual writers club. A place where bloggers could talk about the art of writing. And then we'd have a private space where people could post their writing samples for critique. I say "we" because I floated the idea to Ericka of Alabaster Cow and she jumped right on board.

We named our blog The Red Dress Club after a post by The Bloggess. She wrote about how so many of us have a "red dress," that dream we have that we keep in the closet, or deem to frivolous, or are just too scared to take out and "wear." It's one of the most inspiring posts I've ever read.

For many of us, our red dress is our writing. Maybe we've always wanted to write a book. But we don't consider ourselves writers, or we think people would laugh if they knew our dream, or we find excuses not to do it.

At The Red Dress Club, we like to foster discussion about different topics about writing. We talk about what's holding us back and we give a little pep talk . We also give practical information like how to write a query letter

We also have a weekly meme where we come up with a writing prompt Tuesdays and, on Fridays, you can post it on your personal blog and link up at TRDC. It's a fun (we hope) way to flex your writing muscles and to try new things.

Both Ericka and I have writing backgrounds. Ericka has a degree in English/creative writing and is currently working on her third manuscript. I was a professional newspaper journalist for 16 years and am considering trying a little fiction.

We welcome anyone who has an interest in writing to come join us. Hey - it's free! What do you have to lose?

Cheryl from Mommypants

Can I just add in here that I'm having a blast wearing my red dress? I'm making new friends, all with a common interest--writing. I mean that's why we are all here in the first place right?
Happy Weekend!!

Guest Blog: Milk of Momnesia

Today I am very pleased to tell you that one of my favorite bloggers is here with a guest post. You met her yesterday as the Flavor of the Week (click here if you missed her interview). Please give a hardy welcome to Ericka from Alabaster Cow

Milking It

My right breast, currently the size and  disposition of a small angry baby’s head, is stuffed inside a cylindrical Tupperware container.  My husband and I are on the way to Dallas for a little R&R and what should be a peaceful ride spent reading and silently threatening to write about people I spy on the road is instead dedicated to milking myself.  When I was in the third grade and I tried to imagine what my life would be like as an adult, this certainly wasn’t part of the picture.

There is an ulterior motive to this trip and it’s formally known as “operation weaning.” My daughter is almost fourteen months and uses me as a night time pacifier so I’ve decided to take back my boobs and help her sleep less restlessly in the process.  The idea is all well and good except for the fact that Matt and I are distraught to leave her for the week (okay, Matt’s distraught, I’m distraught and balancing ticking time bombs on my chest.  When these babies go off it won’t be pretty) and the fact that my boobies are growing by the minute.  I always wanted my boobs to grow magically overnight but I can’t say adopting the ability to offer strangers a refreshing glass of milk at will was part of that fantasy.

Sure, it’s painful.  I feel the slight heat in the lumpy tissue beneath my fingers, the hardened shell of what once was an average looking breast.  But the sting runs a little deeper knowing this chapter of my life is coming to a close.  Knowing my baby is growing up.
Between milkings I glance at the empty car seat out of habit.  I absently rifle through my purse for cheerios or a sippy cup.  And when I realize there’s no need for any of those things right now, I become a little sadder.

Maybe a glass of milk would cheer me up…

Thanks for the guest post, today, Ericka. I hope you are enjoying your vacation. Don't forget to leave her lots of milky love on her blog. If you don't know who she is, you are really missing out!! Hope you are having a great weekend!

BSOW: There's Cow Poop in Here

Did you know cows like ice cream? No? Me either. But the ice cream goes to Ericka of Alabaster Cow this week. She's got a delightful little blog that upon first entrance promptly tells you all about her fabulous hiney and how you can see it on a regular basis. She's not afraid to go out in public wearing only green paint. She's the creator behind the fabulous Stick Figure Saturdays meme. She had fun times with Shits & Giggles Sunday (and featured Moi). She gives interventions.  She's half of the Red Dress Club.  She the originator behind the popular Blogflow website, and she still finds time to teach you how to write a book. Her fans are called alabastards. And today, she takes a moment off of her vacation to hang out at the Scoop on Poop.

I asked her: "If you were a goddess, what would you do to the world (and why?)"
 ***********************************
If I were a goddess, I would love the unloved. I believe our lives are directly affected by the love we are afforded. Everyone should feel that they're of value.

I would also make cheese vegan.

Ericka will be back tomorrow with a fabulous guest post. Don't forget to stop on back by!!! Run over to her place and check out her blog. You will not be disappointed.

Happy Friday the 13th!!

Just for Shits and Giggles

Sorry for the potty mouth, but I am the shits and giggles featured blog today over at Alabaster Cow!! WOot Woot Woot Woot Woot! I think I finally made the A-list here. Haha.

If this is your first time stopping in, let me say Welcome. I love me some new friends, and I especially love comments. I'm a HUGE AW so feed my ego fling some poop on your wall and we will be great friends.

I am having lots of fun with my 2 Truths and a Lie meme, which happens every Thursday. I love getting to know people through these little facts (or fiction). I also love meeting new people through my Best Scoop of the Week on Fridays. I've found some very awesome blogs this way. If you need proof, just click on the Featured/Guest Blogger tab at the top of the page.

If you want to hear about some of the poop that my blog is named for, feel free to read any of my PINT/ONHD posts. You can find out how many times GC has left me stranded in the car by myself with the kids, no bathroom, no drinks/snacks. You can find out exactly how big a drama queen my 10 yr old is too. I think my 2 yr old makes a rare appearance, as well.

I love to write. I love to write fiction as much as I love to write so I can laugh at my silly family. One of my most favorite posts was my very first Writer's Workshop about an unlikely hero. I even tried to start a poetry meme, but it wasn't very successful, so I dropped it in favor of 2 Truths & a Lie instead (much, much more fun!).

If you really want to know more about me, here are a few more links to some of my favorite posts:

My take on mommyhood part 1 & 2
My Forever
How I Met My Luvah
My Blind Date from Hell
I've got moxie!

Don't forget to stop by my cooking blog and fill your belly with some delicious poop-free recipes, and check out my (very beginner) design blog, too.

And if you haven't already, check out my Best Scoop of the Week this week, Everyday Mommy. You can find her posts here & here. Leave her some love, will ya?

Thanks for stopping by!! And thanks, Ericka, for the awesome shout out. If you haven't read Alabaster Cow, you haven't found one of the best blogs on the internet.
