"past life doctor hippie woman"
A note for all you Margiela lovers out there: You don't need to go around stuffing cds in you shoulders to get that wicked shoulder definition. Simply cut a hole in the bottom of a garbage bag and stick you head through it! This is Owen's costume for an 'ABC' (Anything But Clothes) Party - he created a Margiela DIY without even knowing it! Necessity is the mother of couture invention...

Vanished
Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a snowglobe. It's a lovely feeling when you're holed up doing work but can simply look out the window and catch a glimpse of this picturesque weather. I really do love winter, but my favourite boots (the ones I'm wearing here) broke!
I've been really interested in Keith Haring lately. Even if the name isn't familiar, you've probably seen his artwork. He does these adorable little cartoons that about peace, love, AIDS awareness etc. They remind me of everything that was seedy and vibrant and exciting about the New York City in the 1980s, which was Haring's hallowed ground. He died of AIDS in 1990, but I feel his work is alive and well.
Actually, Adidas just came out with a line of tracksuits with his work printed on it. I kind of love this jacket but its $300.

Drowsy Formula
Note to self: The only real way to organize books is by colour.
These pictures are from Peaches Geldof's Brooklyn apartment and I must say, her flair for interior design makes her more than a smidgen tolerable in my books.

Put on my dress
I've pretty much been listening to the Pixies nonstop for the last month (making it a little hard to come up with post titles when the same lyrics are always stuck in my head), and the first musician to break that spell is...PJ Harvey.
I've been familiarizing myself with her music through Youtube, and not only is her music captivating and visceral - so is her style! She's always wearing these glamourous high heels/make up and looking generally awesome while just killing it musically. I really admire her.
Here is the music videos for 'Dress' to give you an idea of what PJ is all about.

If you put it on.
I have no idea how ripped my tights were at the beginning of Saturday night, but I can tell you they were nowhere near this bad... It was 90s night at a local venue so we all spent the night dancing to Fatboy Slim, Will Smith, Kriss Kross etc. I was hoping they'd play some early 90s grungy stuff, but I guess angst isn't usually a crowd-pleaser because they played mostly the big hits. I was kind of surprised more people didn't dress up (tie-dye dress, ripped tights and Docs - wait, that's a COSTUME?) but it was a great night nonetheless.
This pretty much sums up my life right now. Minus the schoolwork, internship, house hunting etc.

Whirl
This is exactly the sort of 'Arctic Princess' look I had in mind when discussed a few days ago. The American Apparel circle scarf really does bundle you up like no other - I could hardly do my coat up over top! The only thing missing is Sorel boots instead of these lame no name pieces of crap that I've had since the beginning of high school (5 years ago!). No really, the boots actually say 'No Name'. I think that's supposed to be the brand name or something. How clever...
Actually, finding Sorels is proving to be not a challenge, but an epic Quest of Grail-like proportions. I've been to two local stores plus some out of town and none are stocked in any ladie's size under 11. I have nowhere else to look but the internet, but I'm wary of buying there because I know nothing about Sorel sizing. Perhaps Arctic Princess will have to wait until next year...

chin up
Somehow in the course of two weeks I've morphed into this freaky loser who only dresses for comfort. Lots of 'life changes' seem to be occurring that don't really need to be elaborated on. But I scored this amazing internship and I'm really busy with school and am just busy trying to enjoy life in general and soak it all in. Fashion is going in this minimalist, black/white direction that I can't seem to enjoy and I'm just feeling a little apathetic about fashion in general. Don't consider this an end to the blog. I'm sure I'll get back in the swing of things but I've decided to only post when I really have something awesome to contribute. I leave you with my own narcissistic version of LastNight'sParty aka silly University students at the pub singing along to the mullet-clad classic rock cover band.

Out of Step
Just some inspiration for youz all, plus the most amazing story ever. Honestly, I don't even know what I google search to find this crazy shit but I love it anyways.
On to the story...So, me very good friend was in Washington, DC for the Inauguration and thought that he should make a pilgrimage to Dischord Records (we are both Ian Mackaye megafans). So he Mapquested the Dischord address and walked halfway through town just to get there. He figured there was something wrong because it was in this residential area but he knocked on the door anyways and out emerges...Ian Mackaye's DAD! They chatted for a few minutes (I am dying just thinking about this) and even though Ian wasn't there he still got to meet his dad, which is basically the second most awesome scenario that could have occurred! I find this insanely exciting, can you tell?

Looking for a new England...
Lately I've been completely obsessed with the idea of an 'Arctic Princess' sort of look, where you're all bundled up and warm but still looking pretty good. I'd say my wardrobe is full of decent 'bundling' sort of clothes but I need the perfect boots to complete the image. Sorel boots, to be exact. Those things are warm, indestructible, and not terribly attractive but the houndstooth is cool and they're too darn functional for me to really care. Plus, when I say indestructible I mean it. My mom has had her Sorels for over 20 years now. IN-DE-STRUC-TI-BLE. Behold...
P.S. -Rebecca has Sorels!
P.P.S. - Why does everyone on Lookbook have such perfect white blonde hair? I am ridiculously jealous... But not so jealous that I actually want to have blonde hair. I like being a brunette, thankyouverymuch.

Untrust Us
This sweater was the first thing I saw in Tavi's package, and I swear to god I nearly screamed when I pulled it out because it is something I would totally buy for myself in a heartbeat. I may not be royalty, but in my head I'm the Queen of tacky 80s sweaters. I had planned to spend the morning putting together outfits from the package but this was the first thing I came up with and I didn't want to take it off. The patterned tights were my used to belong to my mom, like, 20 years ago and they're still going strong. I swear they don't make clothing like they used to.
P.S. -Photobooth is the best way to capture the beauty of ridiculous sweaters.

Switch Swatch
This is a bit of a mixed bag but I AM SUCH A LUCKY WENCH. You see, I got a package in the mail. But not just any package. A package containing premium hand-selected clothes from the one and only wunderkid, Tavi! We did this blogger clothes swap sort of thing and it was so fun! Check out my haul.
Two fantastic 80s t-shirts, a crazy awesome pearl sweater plus a plaid skirt some scarves and zipper pull earrings - all for the cost of only postage! These blogger-swaps are not only ridiculously fun but an environmentally sustainable way to recycle your old clothes while getting new ones in the process.
Then I have my favourite picture from New Year's Eve. :)
Finally, I hate to take advantage of anyone's talent but am clueless about photoshop and really want a new header! Leave a comment or email me if you want to do it, but it's be really cool if it was just 'hipster musings' typed in typewriter font over top of this Kurt Cobain with a cat picture! God, I am such a leech. Just send your submission to eloquentseriatim(at)hotmail(dot)com.
I'm not exactly sure of my header dimensions but I'd assume they are standard Blogger.com size?

Klezmer Trio
I used to be obsessed with wardrobe_remix. Now I only check it out when I have the time, but I remember that one of my favourite contributors was always m.bibelot. I love how she wears all these creative outfits to work in an office and her style is distinctly adult but still so cute! Just look at all those bows! m.bibelot's fantastic ability to mix thrift with designer and always look cute as a button has definitely been a perennial style inspiration for me.

Eyelet Lace
The snow may be falling picturesquely, but on the ground it's a slushy, salty winter hell. This means I have no choice but to wear my rubber boots with thermal socks outside. Is it to cold to be wearing my two-tone tights? Probably, but they're just about the best thing to ever happen to my wardrobe so I don't care.
I'm glad everyone seemed to like that WWII propaganda poster I pictured. My friend gave me a belated Christmas/Birthday present a couple nights ago and it was this random death metal cd he found at a secondhand music shop because it reminded him of my love for Old Greg. Mermen: A Glorious Lethal Euphoria - sounds intense!
Actually, I just listened to the cd and it isn't really death metal. Dangnabbit!

Warm Your Bones
Yesterday it was cold and snowy, and I was tired so I basically threw on the first pieces I laid my paws on in the closet and walked out the door. I realize it looks a little ridiculous but I was cozy and I kind of love it anyways.
Do you know what else I love? This World War II poster. I think we should all join car sharing clubs for environmental reasons, since Hitler isn't World Enemy No. 1 anymore. See? Its still relevant!

Bone Machine
Back at school and newly equipped with a tripod, I've discovered a much nicer background to take pictures in front of outside the residence.
I don't really know what this outfit is supposed to be. All I know is that I wore it yesterday and I just really wanted to how off my new grandpa sweater. Pardon me, former President Nixon - this baby is all mine.
Also, my Lacoste sweater lost a button so I replaced it with this flapper girl. It makes me happy.
