Wordful Wednesday-Surviving a Diva Sleepover Party

I usually do Wordless Wednesday, but today I have a lot to share and a lot to say about it. If you saw my post its yesterday, then you would know there was cake drama (AKA Cake Wars).  And, since today represents a decade in the life of my oldest child, Jellybean, you've got to figure it would be all about her. I had intended to do this sappy oh-my-gosh-I-can't-believe-she's-growing-so-fast post full of pictures, past and present. I was, until life happened. The sleepover party happened, and the post rewrote itself.

Let me just start by saying if you have never had a sleepover party with prepubescent girls (and one teenager) then you haven't experienced life in its fullest. It started off innocent enough....

4 pm and the party is just getting started...

They all played great, 3 preteen girls, 1 teenager, 1 preschool girl, 1 boy (my nephew), and Scooby Doo.

Or so I thought. The teenager put in this movie that all the kids got into, and Miss Diva Queen Jellybean got all upset after awhile. She got so upset, she went to her room, shut the door, ignoring everyone at her party. She came out a few minutes later, wrapped up in this blanket, and sat behind the couch where everyone else was sitting and watching the movie...(oh the drama!) **

Why? (Because it's her birthday and she'll pout if she wants to.) She was mad because they weren't doing what SHE wanted to do. It's her birthday, and they should be doing what she wants to do, not what they want to do (the nerve of them!). After I gave her some cheese She did eventually come out of the mood, and the party continued on....

There was food, and....

THE FAMOUS DIVA CAKE
  MAKEOVERS

 TATTOOS
They told ghost stories, argued, watched movies, pigged out on popcorn, argued, danced to some Justin Bieber argued some more...

And when it was all said and done, the Diva was happy...

And I wouldn't have her any other way. Happy 10th birthday, my sweet Jellybean. Life may be a challenge right now, but you've given me the best 10 years of my life. My life wouldn't be the same without you.

My joy. My love. My heart.

And P.S. I think I am in trouble.

**For those not in the "know", Jellybean has a mood disorder and ADHD. This was just a small glimpse into our daily life, and a very mild mood swing. I will be telling her story tomorrow, so watch for the post, if you are interested in learning more about this. I'm not posting about this for any other reason then in hopes that others experiencing similar things can find it helpful in whatever way they need. It's a lonely journey parenting a child like this because people don't often understand. This sleepover was a big deal for her because she has a hard time maintaining friendships even though she is one of the friendliest kids in the universe. The sleepover had its ups and downs, depending on her mood, and I am very grateful to her friends for dealing with it.
