Glee's Lea Michele in Dorothy of OZ
After some steamy controversy last week about her racy GQ magazine photo shoot, Lea Michele is taking it in a different direction. The Broadway actress, who is most recently know for her role as Rachel Berry in Glee, will play Dorothy in the new animated film Dorothy of Oz. In the story, Dorothy returns to Kansas to find it destroyed by the tornado that she rode into Munchkinland. Her home is gone and she can't do anything to help the townspeople. Soon after she is whisked back to Oz to help the people there including her old friends the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. In an effort to save them, Dorothy runs into a series of new characters who help her on her journey.
Apart from Lea Michele, Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey Grammer and Jim Belushi will play the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Also joining the cast are Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart, Martin Short, Megan Hilty and Oliver Platt. It won't come out until April 1, 2012, but they've already be releasing some of the music and artwork.
I wonder how Glee co-star and long-rumored look-alike Idina Menzel feels about this. Menzel was best known for playing the original Elphaba in Broadway's hit show Wicked. And to think, her daughter (Michele) in Glee is now playing the girl who's killed her sister in The Wizard of Oz. Talk about some on-screen tension.
