The Emancipation of My Former Frames

Notice anything different? The crop top, Doc Martens and floral skirt are standard issue - its the glasses that aren't quite right. A few weeks ago, my wonderful glasses had a run-in with an errant foot and came out defeated. My dad patched them up but they were bound to break again and now I'm stuck wearing these awful glasses that not only are a tragic reminder of my high school days, but aren't even the right prescription!

Tragedy strikes!
Picked myself out a pair of subtle cat eyes that I'll be rocking soon enough!

Funny Face

Yowza. There's just something about Spring that inspires me to let my freak flag fly. It might have something to do with being able to wear my granny floral shoes without having to worry about trudging through ankle deep snow! Even though I'm just bumming around writing take-home exams today, I felt the unexplainable urge to wear flounces and florals, so I pulled out my Rodarte for Target cardigan and paired it with my Comme des Garcons shirt to successfully transform from my pyjama-clad self to my fabulous self! The skirt and tights are American Apparel and the granny tapestry shoes are awesome. I mean, thrifted.

Life is good, yeah.

Butter Pecan

I am seriously enjoying my week off in the country. Wisdom teeth recovery was (shockingly) quick and painless so I have been spending most of my time in a semi-horizontal state engaging in my favourite pastime...

READING! My literary taste ranges from the vaguely to obscenely Canadian.

Oh yeah, and I am kind of obsessed with my cat. She doesn't really have a name but sometimes I call her Killer. We're best friends and I enjoy repeating "Miu Miu" endlessly while in her presence.

Of course, I found the time to do some small-town thrifting. My favourite super secret thrift spot (St. Vincent de Paul's) was having a 50% off sale so I snagged a bunch of stuff for the grand total of $6.50. Tho total body count was a pair of heels, floral tapestry purse, sequin jacket and polka-dot dress.

I also picked up an old issue of Nylon, which is generally a horrid magazine, for 25 cents and found an article by my 90s bff Marisa Meltzer! Let's try to ignore the irony of an article on riot grrrl being used to hawk beauty products. The horror!

Golden Dialogue

It's a bit of a drag (which is a bit of a pun because these shorts are super tranny), but my usual picture taking spot has been hijacked by all sorts of construction kerfluffle going on outside! This new spot has worse lighting (minus) but more plants (plus) so it's supposedly a rather neutral change. I'm still rocking out in my flower child headband, roller disco shorts and striped crop top that I (sadly) wear every day.

(This post had way to many sets of parentheses.)

Things that make life infinitely better...

DIY floral headband

Kitschy erasers

Googly eyes

Or, maybe just "a trip to the craft store" in general!

PS - My outfits have been sucking lately, sorry dudes.

Geekend

I am utterly exhausted from working all day every day but there is so much planned for the week ahead! Tomorrow I am going to a MEN concert and then next Monday none other than Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is visiting my town! I am a huge fan of the Queen (adoring the British Royalty seems to run in the family) and would love nothing more than to shake her hand! Any suggestions on what I should wear while I attempt to meet/stalk her Royal Highness?

Colour Bars

Yesterday I took on the gargantuan task of NOT looking like a cheap goth in my black lace dress. Stretchy black lace is usually best left to reruns of the 90s show Charmed, but I like it a lot and wanted to give it a new lease on life. So I paired it with brown vintage t-strap shoes and a flowery headband. This is also the most form fitting outfit I think I have ever worn in my entire life.

I also found the time to do some thrifting this week! Everything I unearthed from the depths of Value Village had an awesome print on it. Soon I will not be able to match a single piece in my entire wardrobe.

Finally found a sunflower dress! It really needs to be hemmed but I adore it.

The bow shirt is Dian Von Furstenburg and cost me $7.99! What a deal! It's about ten sizes too big though.

Preppy florals.

Grunge florals.

David Bowie shirt! Maybe I'll turn it into a crop top?

Solid Gold

Decided to go for the 'modest' look today, so I added lacy petticoat shorts in order to NOT commit the unforgivable sacrilege of wearing leggings as pants. I haven't worn my dear old floral leggings in aaaages so it felt good to break them out again. Of course, I topped it all off with the classic massive band shirt (yay Pixies!) that I pretty much wear every day. The only thing missing from making this exactly like an outfit I would wear in autumn is Doc Martens and some sort of weird cardigan. In other news, there is a very loud fly buzzing around in my room and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!

Just couldn't resist ending the post with obligatory caps lock.

Still an Animal

It's a little terrifying that I'm finding outfit inspiration from one of the creatures on 'People of Walmart', but I really want to be wearing tie-dye and floral shorts right now.

Keats and Yeats

Today I visited Toronto and had the best day I've had in a while. Enjoyed the beauty of the U of T campus, at ice cream and listened to/made some sweet musical jams with an old friend. I ended up buying a pair of witchy boots and am kicking myself for not buying a pair of petticoat shorts (can you even imagine what that looks like?) while vintage shopping. To be honest, I wasn't very happy with my outfit today. Every time I go into the big city I feel pressured to look totally awesome, and then I end up picking something safe rather than creative. Oh well, floral leggings are still cool I guess?

Also, no one has put an offer on any of the items I have for sale so if you want to haggle then send me an email with your best offer (eloquentseriatim(at)hotmail(dot)com).

Once upon a time there was a fox and he was called Jerome...

Happy Belated Mothers Day to all. I decided to document yesterday's outfit in a series of photos instead of just taking one. Partially to be interesting, and partially because I was having a particularly "ugly face day".

I just had to post a picture of this "public service announcement" placemat drawn by a kid because I get such a kick out of the fish drinking a beer. Enlarge the photo for added hilarity.
