Heartwrenching photos came out of Joplin, Mo this week. A small town literally torn in half by an EF-5 tornado on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
A small town where, according to one storm chaser and meteorologist that I am close friends with, had little to no warning because everyone dropped the ball. The NWS, the media, she says should have known better. NWS, meteorologists, and storm chasers knew on Friday that it was going to happen. I knew on Friday that Sunday was going to be a bad day, and I don't even live in an affected areas.
No one warned Joplin until it was too late. Today, 122 people are dead, and several hundred are still missing and hospitalized. While the devastation could not have been avoided, the deaths could have.
This is why, after all the tornadoes and damage done this year, I am Blogging for Joplin. I am blogging to help continue rescue efforts and provide supplies in a town that should have had warning. I am offering ad space in exchange for donations. I have 4 small spots available at the top of my left sidebar (see sponsors) for $15 each and I'm offering to display 2 large ads at the very top of my page for $50 each. If my slots fill up, there are 29 other bloggers willing to help (and growing every day).
