Though I find Emma Stone to be quirky and hilarious in all roles big and small, it's unfortunate that almost ever role she plays has to be an instant comedy. The film is based on the novel of the same title set in 1960s Mississippi. It's centered around Stone's character Kathryn Stockett, a recent college grad who decides to write about the negative way in which black maids are treated.
For such a controversial topic, the trailer comes off as a combination of a basic Tyler Perry movie and The Secret Life of Bees. Hopefully Stone will step out of her comedic comfort zone and prove herself as the "full package."
I'm also excited to see Viola Davis playing a lead after her stunning but brief performance in 2008's Doubt.
The film's set to come out August 12th, and I'm definitely looking forward to it. What about you guys?
