Devotion.
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word devotion is causing a commotion. It's the next line in La Vie Boheme from RENT.
I discovered RENT when I was in high school. I was a drama junkie and dreamed of one day being an actress on Broadway. Except I was shy and didn't even get the courage to audition for my first school play until my junior year. I didn't get a speaking part and I never pursued Broadway after that.
I guess I wasn't really devoted to that dream. Instead, I discovered other dreams that I have spent a little more time towards reaching these goals in my life. Devotion isn't just about creating commotion or even just acting on something, to me, devotion is diving in and giving that small something more meaning than anything. It's something that takes commitment and where dreams don't dissolve because of a few air bubbles.
I actually learned that from RENT, along with other life lessons. I kid you know, RENT saved me from high school. Even now, I remember lines like "give into love or live in fear," or "there is no future, there is no past, let's live this moment as it lasts." RENT is about being devoted to living life and we all could use this reminder and encouragement.
PS. I want to take a moment to also direct your attention over to a very dear blogging friend's blog today. Her town was decimated by a tornado the other day, a town already hurting badly from the economy. Won't you give a sweet blogger a few moments to read her story? It could change the lives of so many. Read Kelly from The Miller Mix story. See how you can help.
