Though I've never been the Bourne series' biggest fan, this just doesn't make any sense. As I reported in October, Matt Damon will not reprise his role as Jason Bourne for the next film — The Bourne Legacy. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't taking the character called Bourne out of the film require a complete name and premise change?
Writer and director Tony Gilroy doesn't seem to be concerned saying, "The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal. Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he’s very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I’m building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy…the world we’re making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne’s return [down the road]."
Well regardless of what his plan is, Universal has offered perceived "bad boy" Jeremy Renner the starring role. Renner is known for his hot headed characters in recent movies like The Hurt Locker and The Town. Who knows, maybe this one will be worth watching with Renner taking the lead over Damon.
