Outside the Tradition

My roommate went to see Lady Gaga last Thursday. She is cooler than me. Yes, I was jealous. Apparently it was quite the costumed spectacle and she referred to a big disco ball as "mother". Can't believe I wasn't there.

Today was rather gloomy and I wanted to spend the day drinking tea and reading Lula (must track down the new issue!) but instead I had to do homework. Outfit posts might be sparse for a while, as my workload is ridiculous.

I watched the strangest movie of all time last night...

Save Energy

Yesterday, I bought a lollipop that looks like Sigmund Freud. It tastes like watermelon with a dash of hysteria, penis envy and Oedipus complex.

Just a reminder to everyone that Earth Hour is tonight, so turn off everything that requires electricity from 8:30 - 9:30 pm to save some energy! And the last time I posted about WWII propaganda posters, everyone seemed to enjoy it, so here are a few more that I get a kick out of.

Also, I joined Twitter. Who knows how I can put a Twitter box in my blog sidebar?

Hours and hours

I can never tell if I wear these pants too much or not enough. Who cares, I love them and HOLY CRAP it is like summer outside today. I said I'd never wear flip-flops, but here I am being a fashion hypocrite. University does strange things to people, like giving flip-flop haters the sudden urge to buy a pair and then making them lock themselves up in the library on a sunny afternoon by choice to write an essay on how oil spills caused by Shell's energy extraction operations in Nigeria is the primary factor contributing to the social degradation of the Ogoni peoples.

Below is a picture of the new tunic top I bought this morning (Old Navy) and yesterdays outfit, featuring the pants again. Yeah, that's right, I wear stuff for two days in a row. And yes, I did indeed straighten my hair fr no reason in particular. Everybody says I look different today!

When I Was A Painter

The creepy lipstick at Alexander McQueen F/W 09 freaked me out for a little while, I admit it. But the more I looked at it, the more I saw a resemblance to a cute and cuddly sock monkey. Now every time I think of that lipstick, it just makes me happy. I have a bit of a soft spot for sock monkeys, you see.

Fire, I bid you to burn.

I've always wanted a Pucci-print piece of clothing, so I was ridiculously happy to find this in the package of things that the Stylish Wanderer sent to me! Plus, wearing it with American Apparel jersey yoga pants and Doc Martens enters this outfit in a tight race for "Most Awesome Super Comfortable Outfit Ever". Seriously, this outfit is pyjama-worthy comfortable. I could sleep in it, which is something I should probably do more often. I don't think I've had more than 5-6 hours per night in a month.

Oh, and this has nothing to do with anything but I think that these "miniature people" pictures are quite brilliant.

Musical World

Today I really wanted to look like a combination of a Greaser and a Soc from The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. The sweet cardigan and pink silk crepe dress are distinctly 'preppy', but the freaky tights and jacket give it some badass oomph. I love the dress so much! The pattern reminds me of a composition book, like one that Harriet the Spy would own. I hope everyone is feeling lovely, because the emergence of Spring is certainly lifting my spirits. See you on the flip side and don't forget to stay gold.

Some kind of delirious funky priest.

Excuse me while I revel in ecatasy, I just received the most ah-may-zing package from the Stylish Wanderer yesterday and am so excited to play around with everything! It's absolutely uncanny how PERFECTLY everything fits me. Thank you so much, doll. I hope you like your package as much as I love mine!

The uber-80s acid wash shorts and pink silk crepe dress make me eek! for joy...

Smith and Wesson

My life is sheer madness. Bad pun. Yes, I felt like being a little trendy and its warming up outside so why not celebrate...by wearing something see-thru? Luckily no one has asked me why I'm not wearing a shirt or told me to put some real clothes on yet today (this is good, I've been to work, class and had lunch with an old friend), so I'm banking on this being a socially acceptable look that you might catch me rocking pretty often in the near future. Or maybe not. May parents are coming to visit tommorrow. I'd better hide those bottles.

Contact

Things are going swimmingly right now. I've decided to take a little bit of pressure off myself getting stellar marks and just want to have fun for the short amount of time I have left of first year University. Many thanks to the sweet commenter who wanted to know more about my glasses. I've worn glasses since Grade 3 and I've always been slightly self-conscious of it, but I really love this pair (Burberry, stud detailing on the arms). I even took a Photobooth picture of myself not wearing glasses but thought I looked quite strange! It's funny, the things we grow accustomed to...

Zardoz changed my life.

Not wearing anything too interesting today, just my classic fish sweater and a leopard scarf for some good ol' aquatic/jungle animal juxtaposition. School is killing me but that doesn't mean I wasn't able to stay up until 3am watching Zardoz, possibly the most bizarre cult film of all time. I love it. Please watch the youtube trailer, you will not be disappointed! Hope everyone had a lovely St. Patrick's Day yesterday.

Do you take me for such a fool?

On the weekends, I like to hose myself up in the library doing schoolwork. Sometimes this involves taking silly photobooth pictures of myself and writing blog posts...

Friday night's Mother Mother concert was amazing and completely exceeded my expectations. A night of quizzing each other on world capitals (the capital of Cote D'Ivoire is Yamoussoukro - knowing this won me a drink), gin and tonics and dancing was had by all. I have also developed a bit of a concert poster-thieving habit.

I bought these epic shoes at Winners for only $16 a few days ago. I am utterly enamoured by them and will incorporate them into an upcoming outfit post as soon as possible.

You'd rather see me paralyzed.

Today I am wearing this exciting assortment of black and white on the lower half of my body and going to see Mother Mother play a show tonight at a bar. They're not really my style of music but I think I can get into it, if only for a night of fun with friends. Out of all the outfit pics I took today, they actually all turned out pretty well (a bit of a shocker) so I'll post them all. I wouldn't want to seem TOO narcissistic without a proper explanation, hah.

Yes, I love Bob Dylan. Positively 4th Street is amaaazing.

I think I may be madly in love with Noel Fielding. That is all.

Aww yeah, rocking the neck ruff like its going out of style. If I could think of a stronger word to use than "madly", I would.

You've got a lot of nerve, to say you are my friend.

Haha, it was very windy while taking this picture. After a brief warm period, suddenly its colder than a witches teat all over again. Bloody hell. I wish I could say there was a method to the madness in this outfit, but I just woke up and this was the first thing I put on. Representing the shirt Tavi sent me a while back, plus slouchy AA leggings. Of course, the cardigan skirt and Doc Martens were all thrifted. Nothing in this outfit cost more than $5 other than the leggings, but they're TRI-BLEND. Totally worth it. Yeah, this recession probably won't change my shopping habits one bit...
Just learned about Cornify on Six Six Sick, and felt compelled to add unicorns and sparkles to this photo because the t-shirt is a little bit corny in the best way possible and that unicorn looks like it was ripped straight off a Margiela fantasy tee. Go ahead and Cornify yourself, its loads of fun!

La La La

I am completely enamoured with CDG's Fall 09 collection, so of course today's outfit was inspired by that. I'm so glad that I bought this sweater about a month ago - its quickly become one of my favourite wardrobe pieces to play around with.

Haha, since I am so obsessed with The Selby, I though I'd take a few Selby-ish shots of my own. I currently reside in a small crappy dorm room, so its nothing spectacular of course. It just gives you an idea of what I have managed to surround myself with and what I see on a daily basis. A calender with a ton of deadlines right above my desk/work station? How convenient. Oh, and I don't really know who the Violet Archers are, I just found the poster lying around and took it because I thought it looked cool.

Future Riff

Whew, Fashion Week goes by quickly when you're not paying attention. But holy kazam, how Comme Des Garcons was my outfit from last Sunday???

I would probably die for these CDG shoes, too. They reminded me of this Selby shot instantly!

Maison Martin Margiela has effectively convinced me that I must buy a nude bodysuit right this minute. I bet I could find some sort of cheap SPANX brand thing aimed at mature women at Sears or other random department store? Yes, I think so.

Award for the most whimsical (secret word that describes "overall favourite collection" in my books) goes out to Libertine. Queen printed coat? LIBRARY BOOKS PATTERNED DRESS? Yes is the word. I am in love.

Lastly, I was really happy that Vivienne Westwood brought the 'shiny', and Missoni brought the 'grunge' to FW/09. Everyone knows that those are possibly my two favourite things to wear. Ever.
