If you can't stand by me, don't stand in my way.

This outfit feels very Sub Pop circa 1992 to me. I know that buffalo plaid is pretty much the lamest thing ever (except in this instance), but flannel is warm and I am chilly! Plus, these pants have miraculously managed to pick up a new stain every time I wear them, which just makes me feel that much more gruuuunge.

Long live the Croc Docs! (Cuffed pants + Doc Martens = skinhead? Here's hoping that formula doesn't apply. I never really like reggae music anyways...)

The white ribbon pin was attached to the shirt when I thrifted it last winter. Then I went home and learned that white ribbons are symbolic of the 'End Violence Against Women' campaign, which is really fitting for me since I am a feminist and all...

Baby Sister

I pulled out this batwing cape from Babooshka Boutique for the first time in a while. Admittedly, I kind of hated its bizarre proportions at first but the entire concept of crop tops is starting to grow on me. When crops tops first started to show up again (thanks to Alexander Wang, I believe?) they reminded me of those tacky awful shirts that Baby Spice used to wear - and they still do when the look is done wrong. Personally, I'd much rather take my crop top inspiration from Fubar, rather than fashion. Fuckin' eh!

Panic

It's starting to get chilly out there! Finally, its time to start wearing the Yokoo-inspired cowl that I knitted myself, my favourite purple toque and wolf sweater of epic-ness just about everywhere. My mother and I once had a friendly debate over whether it was a wolf or an Alaskan Malamute on my sweater. What do you think?

Also, I've been succumbing to the pop culture phenomenon known as Glee. I've caught up to all the episodes in two days. I would be guilty, but its so much fun! Plus, I have a crush on Mr Schuster and I love Kurt's fashion references.

Dreary Days

I want freedom.

I want to read a blog where the author draws their daily outfits.

I want to time travel back to the Jazz Age.

I want these tights.

Pics from Vintage is the New Black, She Wears Clothes, unknown and the Stylish Wanderer.

Sometimes Always

Today is a pretty crap day, which suits me fine because I have to stay inside working on a paper all day anyways. I really love this Lolita meets Wednesday Addams dress that I bought in Toronto with Mary - it doesn't get nearly the wear it deserves. Same with these wicked tie-dye leggings. I guess that's what compulsive shopping does to you. I have zero closet space left but that does nothing to stop my drive to acquire cheap and cheerful garments. In other news, I found this random free mp3 website where I downloaded a shitload of Jesus and Mary Chain and Millions of Dead Cops. I've basically been listening to that nonstop lately and it is excellent.

you gotta take your chances, if you plan on staying free

Last week was definitely an 'off-week' for me fashion-wise, so I feel the need to make up for it by dressing as outrageously as possible this week. This outfit is quite the hodgepodge; vintage Nirvana shirt from Elizabeth, pink dress from the Stylish Wanderer, ripped tights, ankle boots and a silver sequin scarf gifted from my roommate! I'm telling you, that girl is like my sequin fairy godmother.

I am so infatuated with this scarf that I had to take a number of photobooth pictures while fondling it, and worse yet - actually share them on the blog.

Come to think of it, this outfit was almost entirely free. I would make an awesome freegan, no?

ELEKTRONIKAK

As you might know already, themed parties are pretty much the greatest thing ever. I went to an electro-future themed party last night, and there were a lot of people wearing tin foil. I ended up looking completely outrageous - I had a disco ball necklace and earrings, plus my sparkly batwing cape, bodysuit and black lipstick. My whole tagline for the night was 'in the future, people wear less clothes'.

"I want your bad romance. Yes, I do."

Deua borrowed my purple bodysuit and had this cyborg-fembot-oompa loompa thing going on, which was awesome! We ended up dancing the night away and kept shouting 'WE ARE THE FUTURE'. Silly kids...

RIP Daul Kim

I don't even know what to say. Your body of editorial work was nothing short of inspirational, and I was always struck by the audacity of your answers to interview questions. You were intelligent and an icon in your own right. I miss you already. These videos make me miss you even more.

thoughts...

I was trolling through my old picture archives, and found this melancholy gem taken last year that I don't believe I ever posted on the blog.It makes me nostalgic for the good ole days of first year university...

I broke out my fancy tights for a party last weekend, they were a big hit! So were my dance move to Bad Romance. WIN!

I find it really depressing that people actually like stuff like this. My life is not a "wasted effort", and even if it was I wouldn't be proclaiming it for the world to see on some dumb t-shirt dress.

Lastly, I've been listening to a lot of Kate Bush lately. I was heavily into her music about five years ago, so I'm really rediscovering her genius. Plus, I needed a reason to post this picture because it is awesome.

Drink Milk

Some say that the Quest for the Holy Grail has something to do with Jesus and a cup. Others think it is a Monty Python movie. For me, it a hell of a lot shinier than that. After months of searching for a SEQUIN JACKET, salvation has finally come! Thanks to the eagle eyes of my beloved roommate (praise be to Tobi Reid), she spotted this sequin sweater for only $25 at the local consignment shop. Its so beautiful that I can't keep my hands off it. Let us rejoice!

Doc Martens and a plaid shirt, to add a little contrast to all that glitter.

Horror, Design

The sequin sweater of epic proportions made another appearance in today's outfit. I think it is my second favourite sweater (not even silver sequins can replace my love for Fawkes the phoenix sweater). This week has been altogether awesome. Last night I went to a drag show at the bar and watched my male friend prance around in five inch heels to the Spice Girls. Today I went thrifting an accidentally stole a pair of pants from Value Village. The cashier only charged me for the sweater that I bought, and I decided not to say anything because, uh, who doesn't want free pants?

I also got a copy of the new issue of Worn Fashion Journal in the mail! I've said it once, I've said it again and I'll say it once more: Worn Fashion Journal is the probably smartest fashion publication on the market today, and I'm proud to say it hails from Canada.

I loved the paragraph descriptions of personal style, the article on vintage fashion collectors and how they actually care enough to put their interns in the magazine.

Shout out to my girl Anna!

Grow Up

Every time I wear all black, I feel like an imposter of Zana from Garbage Dress. For some reason, the black lace and sequin details of this tunic do not translate as well into pictures as I would like them to. Last night I was a gin soaked dance machine who broke it down to Lady Gaga. Today I felt lost on public transit while listening to The Fall. I love life.

Bad Romance

Today's outfit consists of a classic sequin sweater and jeans that "look like a cloudy day" according to a good friend of mine. I took it as a compliment, these jeans were incredibly fun to bleach.

So, I know the whole blogosphere is freaking out about Lady Gaga's new video for "Bad Romance" and I have to say, I'm freaking out right along with everyone else. The McQueen! The razorblade sunglasses! Lady Gaga truly exists in a theatre of the ridiculously absurd. She is an entertaining spectacle to behold and to some extent, live vicariouly through. Perhaps in an alternate universe, I could serve as one of her backup dancers in a white PVC catsuit?

Why oh why did I not go see her live when I had the chance?

25 cents? Hah!

Today I just really didn't give a crap, so I reached for my cuffed gray work pants, the Rodarte-ispired sweater that I knitted myself and these old as hell purple Docs. After taking the picture I decided the outfit needed a little something-something, so I put on some giraffe bling. This is significant - I NEVER wear jewelry EVER.

Not exactly the epitome of 'feminine', but that's okay.

New Moon Soundtrack Video - Anya Marina Satellite Heart

Check out Anya Marina’s video for “Satellite Heart” the second  single from the original motion picture soundtrack for "New Moon"

Check out the lyrics for “Satellite Heart” by Anya Marina below:

So pretty/so smart
Such a waste of a young heart!
What a pity / what a sham
What’s the matter with you, man?
Don’t you see it’s wrong/ can’t you get it right?
Out of mind and outta

Into the Blues

Wow, I just realized that I'm on some sort of sick and twisted floral patterns binge. I've mentioned it in three posts in the last week, and this will be the fourth! It's sort of funny, because I generally associate floral patterns with all thing pink and girly - basically everything I hate. It must be some sort of sickness, and one that I don't particularly want to recover from. I wore this outfit last Friday, it wasn't raining but the rubber boots were necessary for my field ecology lab.

Here are some more rad folks who appreciate florals...

Give me a rhythm.

Today's outfit is all about being as obnoxiously colourful as possible. I have to wear this really terrible lime green t-shirt to a pub crawl tonight, so I figured I'd play it up with the mixed floral prints, instead of toning it down with shades of black and grey. Plus, I haven't worn my man shoes in a while so I figured I'd throw them into the mix.

Apparently I have the neck of a brontasaurus.

You guys better wish me luck, I've never been on a pub crawl before...

Bottle of Beer

I like pretty things. Pretty things that include...

Floral Doc Martens, a motley mix of feminine grunge.

Maps with meaningful messages.

Making funny faces. Cheer up emo kid, black lipstick ain't so bad!

The knitwear genius of Yokoo.

People who wear Luella blazers from the Ghost World collection.
