A quick hello from the animal kingdom.

So, I figured since I'm always complaining about living in the country and my only friends are Highland Cattle I should give them a proper introduction. We have a herd of about ten or so, and they're lovely creatures but I wouldn't want to spend more than 15 minutes inside the pen. A new calf was just born today, actually. I tried to get pictures but the mother cow had separated herself from the rest of the herd and I couldn't get close enough for a picture. Enough with the fashion, bring on the cows!

Back to fashion, this outfit is pretty farmer-grunge. Oh, and I got a new haircut and I fucking hate it. Hence the hat...

Seychelles, Mauritius

Since returning home, I've picked up where I left off in terms of one of my hobbies: thrifting. Being something of a compulsive shopper with a closet that is stuffed to the brim, I always seem to find things I absolutely cannot live without. Today it happened to be a black tie-dye longsleeve, a tiny floral grunge dress, leather boots and an amazing royal blue band jacket/cardigan. Well, its really a cardigan with band jacket-style detailing on it. My mom said it was "obviously made in the Michael Jackson era." How can I argue?

Sound System!

The PJ Harvey shirt gets its big debut! Unfortunately, its with the age-old legging/pant combination. Oops! Comfort dressing has gotten the better of me once again... I bought 'Rid of Me' on eBay a few weeks ago and have been listening to it non-stop. Geez, if I had a nickel for every time I wished I came of age in the early 90s, I would honestly be rich. On a different musical note, I'm currently rediscovering the joy I once found in Operation Ivy! They're still just as good as I remember them being in high school!

Me-Jane

Whew! I'm completely exhausted after biking for half an hour (and back, this should explain the lazy attire) to the nearest library so I could use their wireless internet to catch up on my blog reading. Yes, I am out of shape! Anyhow, today was a rather exciting 'mail' day for me. A package of four t-shirts I had ordered from Voltage Vox on eBay arrived, along with a sick package from the ever-lovely Arabelle! The t-shirts are of Ian Curtis, PJ Harvey, Black Flag and Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures logo clockwise from top left. I am absolutely chuffed with the Unknown Pleasures tank, as its long enough to wear as a dress! I will be playing around with all of the shirts ASAP, so you'll get a better look at them all soon.

Also, this Johnathan Saunders for Target dress from Belle make me feel like a crazy new age Jackie O.! I'm a 1960s classy lady with a punch, so you'd best watch out. The front panel reminds me of melting candle wax. I'm in love!

No, you're not rid of me.

Happy Earth Day everyone! Though I know 'special dates' like this are purely ceremonial and don't often mean much to people, it would be nice if this Earth Day, I could hept inspire people to reconsider their individual connection with nature and how it affects their daily lives. I have no desire to get preachy (its a fashion blog, of course) but these are things I think about every day (hello, ERS major). So maybe do something simple like ride your bike or just take a walk down the street and consider how beautiful the Earth that sustains you really is, and what you can do to help.

The outfit itself is kind of boring, I know, but I thrifted the perfect plaid shirt the other day and just wanted to show it off along with my hand-knitted cowl!

People and Interiors

I guess I've been very inspired by interiors lately, and just getting glimpses of what people like to surround themselves with. Here are a few pictures of inspiring people/interiors that I've found here and there around the interwebs and wanted to diligently re-post them. Plus, I finished the YOKOO-esque cowl I was knitting so here is a sneak peek!

twenty years of schooling and they put you on the day shift

So, I know this is about a month late but THANKS TOPSHOP!!! The tote bag is absolutely precious and I love the illustrations, along with all the other little things they sent along.

Long-time readers and friends will know that my mom is a seamstress, and if you didn't already, well, now you do! Anyways, I just noticed how cool her surrounding work-space is so I decided to pretend I was Todd Selby and see the artistic within the ordinary. Hope you enjoy!

Very Superstitious

No lie, I'm a little upset that this is that last outfit picture I'll ever take in front of that beloved brick wall. First year University is officially done, and I'm tucked back safely in my native abode out in the sticks. But before I could leave, a lot of celebrating had to be done. Thursday night involved chilling at the pub with everyone, and Friday night was coffee dates and dancing to funk music with my closest few friends. All in all, I had the most amazing time getting to know everyone and I cannot wait to return in September. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE.

But the country weather is beautiful and I have a couple of free weeks before I start my summer job. Let's see where this takes me.

Documentary

I spent the day schlepping, studying hardcore and pretending to be Winona Ryder in Reality Bites. With the requisite 90s floral romper, I can kinda pass for her, no? Ahh, wishful thinking.

Thanks for all the comments on my previous, it's lovely to find so many kindred spirit Harry Potter lovers! Also, I recently watched Gummo a couple of nights ago and was wondering if anyone wanted to share their thoughts? I found it pretty disturbing yet fascinating at the same time.

Binomial Distributions

I adore Harry Potter books enough to wear this shirt with pride. When I turned 11 and realized I wasn't a Witch, I was pretty much heartbroken. Nowadays, I just enjoy rereading the books and pretending I'm a character. At the lunch table today, everyone decided that ff I was a Professor in Harry Potter, I would teach Herbology or History of Magic and if I were a student, I would be in Ravenclaw (who has a secret crush on Ron Weasley).

Happy Easter!

While you're relaxing and probably enjoying a home-cooked meal, I will be subsisting on cafeteria food and Cadbury Creme Eggs, cramming for a Women's Studies exam. Yes, it is safe to say that I am jealous of you.

Susie Bubble posted these a while ago, but figured they were appropriate to re-post.

Listen to Xavier Rudd

Epic thrift! I went to Value Village for the first time in months (literally), and really made up for the lost time with all the awesome stuff I got. I've been dying for some 90s florals, so this romper totally made my afternoon. All I need are my Doc Martens and a Walkman to blast Nirvana at full volume. The rest of the body count includes these white leather Chloe-esque flats, a Harry Potter shirt, a thick-knit sweater vest, a ruffly shirt and a beaded shrug.

I've only got a week left of my first year of University! Somehow I have to make the good times last, because I am not ready to let go and move back home for four months. How the hell did this year go by so fast?

Man Size

Does anyone else have a 'go-to' outfit that they can always rely one when they don't know what else to wear? Mine is definitely the mighty, marvelous phoenix sweater, Cheap Mondays and purple Docs. Exams are starting to hit me like a ton of bricks (what, tommorrow?) so its a good thing I can look half decent when I leave my room for meals and trips to Tim Hortons.
