You're pretty good looking (for a girl)

So the magic leopard coat makes yet another appearance on the blog because its rather special to me and only gets worn for a few weeks each year in the perfect weather: still chilly, but with no horrendous wind. Underneath the coat lies a Cub Scouts shirt and silly facial expression.

Last night got a little ridiculous, when the Alcatraz crew/Bro-hole members (also known as my friends) dressed up in full "Bro" costume. Totally indistinguishable from a real "Bro", right? Bitches love my new haircut.

No bro is complete without three things: tribal tattoos, protein (or 'brotein') and a cold brewskie.

Stylish Roundup

I think "Oh, Deer" is the some sort of clothing name brand, but it is much better off being used to describe this adorable outfit from Face Hunter.

Let's pay word association. If you say "Jackie O.", I say "sleek, black, pearls, pillbox hat". Somehow she looks even better wearing hot pink and odd necklaces.

Men's fashion is not my primary interest, but any outfit that involves plaid and tiger print is attention worthy. Especially when the model is an exact replica of Jake Gyllenhaal. (I think is is Missoni, a few seasons ago).

Lastly, I have admired this girl forever. I have admired those leggings since I started staring at this picture 5 minutes ago...

I am not the kind of guy

Midterms are finally over, but before the one I had today I decided that playing dress-up took priority over studying. (Why am I so awful? I was so academic last semester!) Here's what I came up with. I wore this outfit for maybe a total of 15 minutes, but damn it felt good. Sort of a badass Edie Sedwick look? I don't know, I'm just doing my own thing. Over last week's break, I made a killing at Urban Outfitters. I got this fringe shirt for only $10 and a pair of really great dark wash high-waisted skinny jeans for $20. Deals and dress-up are practically the essence of my life.

It's a sunday afternoon and there are a few things that I have to do.

Fuck my life, Betty is wearing my ultimate pair of shoes. Where does one acquire such a marvelous pair of footwear? If you know, please let me in on it because I am bursting at the seams.

I want to be wearing this outfit right now.

And its probably sacrilegious, I haven't even peeked at Style.com to catch up with fashion week. I don't have to, you guys do all the work for me! It's too easy! And I don't really have the time. Gucci Pre-Fall is pretty excellent though...

Circumference

This morning I woke up to the sounds of Bo Burnham's 'New Math' chiming the apocalypse in my head. Midterms I have not studied for are upon me for the next three days and I can't even see straight. That's why I am writing a blog right now. Productivity is overrated. So this outfit is likely to become my uniform for the week. I pledged to wear my Cheap Mondays and purple Docs every day this week so I can break both of them in. Plus, the phoenix sweater is always trusty. I shall alert you all immediately if there is a (pleasant, welcome) disruption in this week's planned uniform.

Plants and Rags

Just a quick update before I make the mad dash back to school. My life is a commuted existence... Well, earlier in the week I mentioned that I already had another copycat knitting project in the works so here is a sneak peek. This is the very beginnining stages of thick and lovely YOKOO-style cowl in winter white.

On the day I epic thrifted those two pairs of Doc Martens, I also found this fish sweater. I am in love.

What's Up, Doc?*

Yesterday's thrift find completely affirmed my belief that small town thrift stores always yield the best 'crop', because half the time people don't even know what they're giving away. It was epic enough to be turned into a blockbuster movie: one day, two thrift stores, two pairs of Doc Martens, four dollars. You heard me.

The black pair came from St. Vincents and were $4. They seem to have matte leather and a more 'hiking boot' sole than your average Docs. The purple(!) pair came from Value Village and were $13, but I had a gift card so technically they were free. They have been worn to shreds by someone else's foot but if it takes wearing some thick socks to get them broken into my feet then so be it. I cannot wait to line the two all up in a pretty row with my brown crocodile Docs once I get back to school.

*Tacky post title, yes. Please don't kill me.

on a perfect stream of love and drink

Oh, whats that? I've finally finished knitting my own Rodarte copycat sweater?? Yes, it's true!

Last time I updated on the knitting project, I had finished the body but not the sleeves. Now the whole shebang is finally complete. :)

It may not have the same rips, snags and holes as a real Rodarte would, but I knitted it by myself and I'm damn proud. In fact, I'm already thinking about what my next copycat knitting project will be...

Fortunately Gone

Brace yourself, blow off some steam, serious shoe porn coming through.

These spiky number are Junya Watanabe, Fall 06 I think? Though I'm not really feeling the tall spiky boots there's not a lot I wouldn't do to get my hands on the ankle bootie pair on the far right.

Gold Marc Jacobs boots worn by the perennially stylish Alison Mosshart. I don't really listen to the Kills (out of ignorance, not dislike) but I think she always looks amazing!

The Cherry Blossom Girl is the closest thing the world has to a real fairy princess. Enough said.

Last but not least, tartan Doc Martens! I love how that rhymes... I have a skirt that would match perfectly with these boots.

I'll be escaping home this week to that land of highland cattle and dial-up internet known as home, so frequency of posts may or may not slow down.

trance

So sometimes my residence holds these geekily themed community dinners and I'll take any excuse I can get to dress up. I wore this to yesterday's "Superheroes" themed dinner and kept getting asked who I was. I guess being "superhero-inspired" isn't enough! But I wore my new vest because it can kind of pass for a cape, with my AA latex leggings, tall rubber boots and a bullet belt because superheroes can use mortal weapons in case of an emergency, right?

Guest featuring: Dan as the Flash, and Jimmy as Wolverine. Alex as the Juggernaut ran away before I could snag a picture, but trust me, it was epic.

Never been afraid of any deviation.

Right as I was taking this picture, some random guy walked by and gave me a funny look. Notice how I am responding with squinty eyes. Akward! So I felt compelled to take another picture, though admittedly its equally ridiculous.

Today is gloomy and awful and I have a statistics midterm that I cannot be bothered to study for (suffering from the "math is not my best subject so why even try?" mentality. Stats is mandatory for my program, no I am not masochistic) so I thought I should "mix it up" with clashing patterns. Tie-dye scarf, grandpa cardigan and leopard jeans? Mmmyesplease.

Does anyone watch Freaks and Geeks? I'm almost through youtubing the first (and only!) season and its probably the most entertaining television show I've ever seen. Joan Jett has permanently been stuck in my head since I started watching. Oh, and the best character is Bill. I just want to be his friend!

P.S.- I know someone posted this already, but Stam is totally killing it in this editorial.

Good Luck Now

What a weekend. I should probably be frantically studying for midterms, but the sense of urgency really hasn't caught up with me yet. But that didn't stop me from holing up in the library all afternoon with my Women's Studies textbook and my brain, watching PJ Harvey videos and occasionally contemplating why these grey Cheap Monday jeans are the same size but not nearly as tight as my other pair.

Later that night I hoofed it to the Starlight club to make up for all that studying and see a Geoff Berner w/ Forest City Lovers show, which was excellent. It was the kind of intimate show where the bands talk between the songs just as much as they play music. Geoff Berner is a mad genius and afterwords I stole a poster.

Silver Sequins

Garbage Dress is one of my new favourite blogs that you must go read immediately. And on a semi-related note involving silver sequins - I never thought I'd ever be saying this, but Alice Cooper is really well dressed (at least in this video). He may be a creepy Republican, but those shiny pants are seriously covetable.

Rubadub Square

I think I have a girl crush on Diva and Lola Dompe. They're these wacky, creative sisters from LA whose dad was in Bahaus and they make up the band Black Black. Urban Outfitters and the Selby both did features on them and which I strongly urge you to check out, as I am so visually inspired by this creative work space/home/live life in costume thing they've got going on.

Everything'll be alright.

Wearing Cheap Monday jeans is a lot like squeezing your legs into denim tubes roughly the size of cannelloni. Not to mention, my posture leaves something to be desired.

That happy skull is mocking me...

We're Only Gonna Die

I'm really glad I work (er, 'intern') in very casual place, where nobody looks at me weird for wearing newspaper skirts, latex leggings and a piece of fabric twice the size of my body that I paid way too much money for.

One of my core environmental problem solving courses this semester is all about bottled water and we had a guest lecture by corporate representatives from Nestle and the Canadian Bottled Water Association. Though it didn't really change my overall negative opinion on bottled water itself, it was nice to see 'both sides of the story'. I don't know why I just told you that.

<3

Oh hi there Teen Vogue, did you know you're the only magazine I buy because its affordable and you can get it at the grocery store? Oh wait, I'm featured on your website? No way!!! But in all seriousness, I love how Teen Vogue appreciates blogs/gives them a crapload of recognition. I am ridiculously flattered to be featured in their slideshow accompanying an article on young fashion bloggers among the likes of Rumi, Susie and Tavi. I feel like screaming, so hopefully the excessive use of exclamation marks will convey my utter excitement in a non verbal way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
