Ain't Born Typical
Ok, so why is it that I only start liking the 'cool indie bands' like 3 years after they first appear. IIt seems natural that I would be into a band like The Kills with a stylish, badass lady as lead singer but I was soooooo not into them back in 2008. I guess my musical tastes were clouded by too much Minor Threat/Bikini Kill back at age 18 because I am totally feeling them right now. Being late on the bandwagon is pretty much the perfect example of the 'first world problems' of white indie kids, no?
Also, today is definitely a day where the legendary phoenix sweater is happening. I didn't feel like wearing pants today so thigh-high socks it is!

You are shining some glory on me.

You know those disgusting t-shirts dudes wear with an arrow pointing up that says ‘The Man’ and then an arrow pointing in the opposite direction that says ‘The Legend’? Well, in my own mind I am ‘the man’ and my phoenix sweater is ‘the legend’. Seriously, I’ve worn it 38745 times on this blog and it never gets old (at least to me).

Further proof that the phoenix is a legend? I watched Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (which tried to be a lot more clever than it actually was, in my opinion) and guess who else is wearing a phoenix? DEVENDRA BANHART. His cameo part featuring a phoenix sweater was actually the most memorable part of the movie. Seriously dude, I know you’re famous, but you’re stepping onto my territory! Not cool, Devendra.

Never mind what you're selling, it's what you're buying.
You know its that time of year again when I start to break out the legendary phoenix sweater! This thing is like a good luck omen, it always makes me so happy whenever I wear it. It needs a name - I'm thinking Fawkes, is that too obvious?
It's also that time of year when outerwear is just starting to become a necessity. My friend gave me this hand me down military coat a few months ago - free clothes are the best, especially when they fit perfectly and look ridiculously excellent.

Circumference
This morning I woke up to the sounds of Bo Burnham's 'New Math' chiming the apocalypse in my head. Midterms I have not studied for are upon me for the next three days and I can't even see straight. That's why I am writing a blog right now. Productivity is overrated. So this outfit is likely to become my uniform for the week. I pledged to wear my Cheap Mondays and purple Docs every day this week so I can break both of them in. Plus, the phoenix sweater is always trusty. I shall alert you all immediately if there is a (pleasant, welcome) disruption in this week's planned uniform.

Warm Your Bones
Yesterday it was cold and snowy, and I was tired so I basically threw on the first pieces I laid my paws on in the closet and walked out the door. I realize it looks a little ridiculous but I was cozy and I kind of love it anyways.
Do you know what else I love? This World War II poster. I think we should all join car sharing clubs for environmental reasons, since Hitler isn't World Enemy No. 1 anymore. See? Its still relevant!

No Resolutions, Just Awesome.
I hope everyone had an excellent and memorable New Years night. Here's to a prosperous 2009! My night was a mini version of a high-school reunion party, except less awkward because we all good friends who haven't seen each other in a while. Real party pictures have yet to surface on the internet, so here's a haphazard and slightly disturbing close-up I took before stepping out the door. I was trying to go for vintage glamour with the red lipstick and all, lord knows if I succeeded.

Of course, New Years Day was spent mainly in 'recovery mode' but I dragged myself out of bed to do a little playing around with the tripod I got for my birthday. Today's outfit was definitely comfort based, just black leggings and my trusty phoenix sweater that is basically a dress.

In a previous post, someone wondered how I was going to style the tie-dye shirt I got. Here is my visual reply.

A lot of people see tie-dye as this big fashion mistake, but I just love it. I'm not a hippie, I swear!
P.S. -Did anyone else love Google's '2009' image? It makes me smile.

Oh My Golly!
Yesterday was my birthday, and it was excellent! Since I got some Value Village gift certificates I felt compelled to spend some of it immediately and came home with the most AMAZING sweater haul. A grandpa cardigan, tie-dye long sleeve shirt, fair isle cardigan are now mine. All mine.

But the best piece I found was this 80s phoenix sweater. Its got the perfect amount of slouch to it - damn, I can't wait to start experimenting with all these new sweaters!

The most ironic part of my 19th birthday was NOT being asked for ID when ordering a drink at the restaurant. It felt so anti-climactic! I don't look that old, do I?
