Happy Halloween!

Hey there ghouls! This is the closest I've come to putting on a 'costume' for Halloween in six years. Instead of being a 'slutty pirate' or something equally unoriginal, I wanted to show my enthusiasm for the holiday in a more subtle way. I thrifted the dress at Value Village earlier this month and knew that black lipstick would create the just the right Halloween vibe.

As an adult, the proper way to celebrate Halloween is to go see the Rocky Horror Picture tonight and buy discounted candy tomorrow.

London bridge at night

London Bridge is a bridge between the City of London and Southwark in London, England, over the River Thames. Situated between Cannon Street Railway Bridge and Tower Bridge, it forms the western end of the Pool of London. On the south side of the bridge are Southwark Cathedral and London Bridge station; on the north side are the Monument to the Great Fire of London and Monument tube station.

The Conductor

It's a rainy day today, and I have an ecology lab quiz. Hopefully I pass in the name of science! A couple nights ago, I had the pleasure of seeing UME play in concert, who you should totally check out.

The opening band (which will remain unnamed) was a bunch of guys who were totally fat stoner kids in high school, and likely haven't changed much since then. The lead singer was wearing these weird leather gloves and sang about Nosferatu, which I wholly enjoyed because it was hilarious. UME was wicked, and they weren't even wearing leather gloves! The lead singer is this adorable blonde who can totally shred it on the guitar, she is is amazing! I even got to talk to them after the set and they're such nice people as well.

Behold, the outfit of my dreams.

It might be fun to run a contest for "the greatest outfit of all time", but I'm pretty sure that Miss Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes wins in every single category with the spectacular ensemble.

She's totally working it in the tie dye jeans, Comme des Garcons skirt and silver brogues. It's a pretty 'avant garde' combination of pieces, but it just looks so damn good. You WIN, Jane!

Bigmouth

I went for the Navajo-ish print skirt today - I swear this is the best thing that fifty cents have ever bought me. In terms of school, the 'week of hell' has officially descended on me. I've got deadlines coming at me from all angles and they're seriously cramping my style.

At least I have these wicked brown boots to cheer me up. Really, nothing cheers me up like footwear and hot beverages. Bring it on, deadlines!

Sweetness, I was only joking.

Looking back on pictures from last year, my immediate thoughts were "Sweet Jesus, why did I cut my hair?!" Those curls were LUSH, now they look like ratty dreads (hence the constant straightening).

Some people do heroin, I do eBay. Seriously, these are DOC MARTENS WINGTIP BROGUES. Two of my favourite things combined into one? I'll take it.

Again with the sequin jacket! I've been longing to own one and this one will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine. (Yes, I'm writing a paper on the effects of heavy metal on agricultural soil in the UK after the application of biosolids. Interesting?)

Lastly, I am SO getting in to the Smiths right now. Universe, please tell me why the heck it took me so long to be able to appreciate this genius?

Get out there and do something!

This feature on Christopher Nemeth on The Selby is absolutely genius.

Big news, today is the International Day of Climate Action and I want to know what you all are doing to make a difference! I just got home from a rally in Waterloo, and it was completely inspiring. Political leadership is key, and I hope this symbolic day will show that people are serious about wanting to change our government's stance on climate change. We have the power to change the momentum of the talks at the U.N. Climate Conference in Copenhagen this December. Let's get excited and make this happen!

Rob Pattinson & Kristen Stewart Cover People Magazine

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart cover People’s special New Moon issue on newsstands this Friday (October 16).
New Moon is darker than its predecessor, the film’s director, Chris Weitz, explains. “Twilight is about first love; New Moon is about heartbreak,” he says.
But even with darker undertones, Ashley assures us there’ll still be romance; “It’s a pretty hot movie,” she says.

As the flames rose to her roman nose

This outfit is basically the Autumn version of my 'Arctic Princess' look from last winter. I like this outfit, apparently it is perfect for my future as a weirdo old cat lady who builds shelves on the walls for cats can play on. (Yes, somebody actually believes that this is my future.) Another person asked me if I was an art student while wearing this. Not sure if there's a correlation between art kids and cat people, but I guess this outfit is here to bridge the gap.

Better than a cadillac.

The time has finally come. You have all passed the test, and are are ready to be introduced to my new SUPERCALIFRAGISISTICEXPILADOCIOUS sequin sweater.

Here it is! I totally dressed for comfort that day and just decided to the the sweater do all the talking for me. Imagine if the sweater could actually talk??? I bet it would have a lot of fabulous things to say. I might even stop talking entirely and just let the sweater take over.

Jingle Jangle

So I've had this strange black lace lingerie piece since the high school days of yore, and even though I never wear it, I can't seem to throw it away because its too pretty. I originally wasn't happy with the outfit I first threw on this morning, so I changed into this and my mood increased tenfold. I wish the wind hadn't blown the skirt, because the draping detail is so dramatic when it hangs properly.

Black lace "dress" - Value Village, also bought ages ago

Hildegard of Bingen

Last night I went to an excellent party hosted by some good friends called 'Enter My Rainforest'. They had even had green lightbulbs, crepe streamers and hilarious party-proofing signs everywhere (see below). I was pretty chuffed about my outfit; the dress I'm wearing is really an extra-large t-shirt that I got for free because I volunteered for the Faculty of Environment at my school. Represent! These tights get worn to almost every party I attend, they've got some wicked battle scars. These wonderful boots get worn nearly every day, and the necklace was free from My Name Necklace.

Mad photocred to Tobi Reid!

When I saw this illustration, I sort of fell in love. It reminded me of a tear from the colouring book of my dreams so I printed off the image, and did just that! Now I've got a fun little piece of art hanging on my cork board. Colouring was always one of my favourite activities during kiddie arts & crafts time. I was never able to colour inside the lines but dammit, I had fun.

And She Was...

After not having gone thrifting for months, the urges got so strong that I finally broke down and went to Value Village last week. And am I ever glad I went! The purpose of today's outfit is to display these finds (and you know, look good). My first excellent find was this black drape-y vest, which is cool because its unusual to find avant-garde draped stuff at thrift stores. My second excellent find was this pair of brown cowboy ankle boots! I've been looking for something like these for ages, and I'm glad I finally found my perfect match.

My third thrift find is so epic, that I can only reveal part of it so the epic-ness does not blow your mind. Yes, it is a sweater. It is a sequin sweater. If I could spin all of my life's accomplishments into sweater form, this would be the one.

Term of Destiny

Whew, I just get back from a relaxing Thanksgiving weekend at home only to be thrown headfirst into what seems like a neverending abyss of schoolwork. Pull my hair out and call me dead! Uhhh, just kidding. I'm just going to have to dive headfirst!

Life Lesson Number One: The so-called "relaxation" of a holiday weekend is a total farce.
Life Lesson Number Two: Balenciaga makes like better.

Wake Up, Watch TV

Wow, I've really been pulling out all of my bizarre sweaters fast and loose like some kind of delirious funky priest. This sweater is a bit of a metaphor - you see, it's been raining just about every day for the past two weeks so I FEEL a lot like a fish, submerged in water. It's lucky I have such a cheerful umbrella.

I got a massive new poster for my room, teen angst has never looked better. I'll be heading home for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend tomorrow, see you all on the flip side.

Never mind what you're selling, it's what you're buying.

You know its that time of year again when I start to break out the legendary phoenix sweater! This thing is like a good luck omen, it always makes me so happy whenever I wear it. It needs a name - I'm thinking Fawkes, is that too obvious?

It's also that time of year when outerwear is just starting to become a necessity. My friend gave me this hand me down military coat a few months ago - free clothes are the best, especially when they fit perfectly and look ridiculously excellent.

Sitting in the Waiting Room

This outfit was definitely inspired by Comme des Garcons - not in the actual 'design' sense, more in the "I just felt like wearing polka dots and brogues today" sense. (I know shit-all about design, people. I just like to wear clothes.) But while we're on the topic, I can't even extol in words how much I enjoyed the Comme S/S 2010 collection!

The hair reminded me of those Juicy Couture ads that are always in Teen Vogue, and the clothes were so intricate and pretty. Plus, I have mad respect for flat shoes on the runway. That's the way it should be!

P.S. -What's with these colourful leaves? Fall is here, dudes! And not a minute too soon.

Hey Hey Hey

Can we just stop for a moment and appreciate the vintage adorable-ness and general awesomeness that characterize Francesca from the snail and the cyclops and Siri from Ringo, Have a banana?

I'm not one of those girls who likes to wear pretty things all the time and looks like they walked straight out of Lula magazine, but I can appreciate the look and nobody does it better than these two.

Official Tracklist for New Moon Soundtrack Released!

The official track list for of the Soundtrack for New Moon has been released, and it is an absolutely doozy! This is quite possibly the soundtrack of the year.

Even those who thumb their nose up at the Twilight phenomenon are going to be checking this one out. Critical darlings Grizzly Bear, Radiohead legend Thom Yorke, rockers The Killers and Muse are just some of the treats awaiting the

Jewel Thief

I have discovered the new Courtney Love and her name is Liza Thorn. Listen to Bridez right now. Go and do it. I've had them on repeat for the last half hour - this is a major musical discovery for me.
