I need to stop spending money on clothes and start saving money so I can go to Australia and the Harry Potter theme park.

Pics are from Luxirare, Di$count and I forget where else.

Taste the Floor

I'm afraid to say that this week that been an exceptionally boring collection of drive-filled days. My first midterm is tomorrow, so I've just been filling my head up with climate science just to prepare myself. Oh, but I will always have time for a good wolf sweater! Only the heartless could fail to appreciate such a thing of wonder.

PS - This picture of Kate Moss reminds me of Armani Spring 2010 Couture in a major way.

The Living End

Ugh, its miserable out and I've been holing myself inside drinking entire pots of Earl Grey tea and procrastinating my studies EXTENSIVELY by joining fashion social media sites like Weardrobe and Chictopia. Check out my profiles and be my internet friend, you guys!

Also, thanks to the ingenious public library, I have created a new (yet sadly temporary) media shelf. There is seriously so much good stuff at the library. I'm talking Surfer Rosa by the Pixies and Live Through This by Hole - music I already have but kinda wish I didn't just so I could take it out from the library!

Really getting into the Jesus and Mary Chain right now. Hey, if they call it Psychocandy then why can't I eat it?

Muse-ic

Some of my favourite women in music take damn good black and white photos, so I thought I would share. PJ Harvey, Kate Bush and Lady Gaga are a pretty diverse bunch of artists, but they all inspire me in one way or another.

Oh, and why not add some Smiths lyrics to the mix?

Go out and find the one that you love and who loves you.

I know this is really weird guys, but I actually felt like wearing COLOUR today. The Navajo-print skirt (that cost me fifty cents!) and my Of Montreal shirt are pretty much the only matching colourful items in my closet. I love how it looks like "Little Miss Of Montreal" is peeking out from above my skirt. As for the skirt, its usually an awkward length but I love how it looks here where I hiked it up and made it into a paper bag waist with the belt.

So I went to the public library to get some essay writing done today, and I'm kind of shocked that I'd never really 'discovered' it before. As a student, I don't really have time for extensive pleasure reading but I didn't know I can rent MOVIES and MUSIC there. This is genius! The country bumpkin in me continues to be impressed by things that city folks really take for granted.

Prejudice won't keep you warm tonight.

I wore my shiny Thursday best to go see a late showing of Youth in Revolt last night. Seriously, I don't care if Michael Cera is the Keanu Reeves of awkward teen films - he always manages to charm the pants off me! It wasn't an amazing movie but it did have its moments. "I want to tickle your bellybutton from the inside!" My sense of humour is seriously skewed.

PS - Does anyone want to discuss how utterly revolting this "Why I Hate Fashion" article is?

Crack on the Head

Last weekend, I was browsing around in the Coach store (because poor folks can dream too!) and I stumbled upon the best bag in the universe. It was the perfect size and covered in SILVER SEQUINS.

I know this website picture makes it look horrible and cheap, but it was marvelous, I swear! That, or I'm simply blinded by shiny things. Seriously, there are a lot of horrible things that I'd probably do to get my hands on sequin encrusted articles of clothing.

Noir Ohio Vintage knows what's up!

PJ Harvey is amazing AND she wears sequins? Double whammy!

I have an alter ego. She is a disco ball. Darn right I'd wear every single shiny thing showcased here all together!

Leona Lewis - I See You ( Avatar Soundtrack)

Leona Lewis - I See You

Leona Lewis - I See You (Lyrics)

I see you
I see you
Walking through a dream
I see you
My light in darkness breathing hope of new life
Now I live through you and you through me
Enchanting
I pray in my heart that this dream never ends
I see me through your eyes

Living through life flying high
Your life shines the way into paradise
So I offer my life as a sacrifice

I've only got two hands.

Funny how I seem to blend in with the wall in this picture. I thrifted this sweater sometime last month and it has to be the weirdest animal print I've ever seen. Somewhere in the 'no man's land' between a leopard and a snake? My friend Owen has an even better description for it: "Christmas Gaga"! What does the sweater remind you of? I tried to tone down the 80s trash vibe by wearing it with tuxedo pants and brogues, but was only marginally successful.

In more compelling news...

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! Yep, time for Cadbury Creme Eggs. They are my absolute favourite junk food of all time. I need to petition Cadbury to start producing them in different shapes for all of the holidays. Cadbury Creme Tree Ornaments for Christmas? Cadbury Creme Witch's Cauldrons for Halloween? Somebody hire me to work in their marketing department STAT!

Ichiban!!!

Ugh, this weekend I have just been sitting around like moss growing on a log stump. I hate being unproductive but somehow all my required course readings look really unappealing and I would just rather sit around watch Lady Gaga on Oprah. Thats when you know your procrastination has reached a whole new level. Ewww. Also, I have a new Youtube hero. He has braces, pimples and a nasal voice and is the funniest kid ever.

My outfit = Black Flag shirt from eBay, thrifted plaid flannel, thrifted skirt, gifted lace tights and Coach shoes I bought from eBay. Does anyone else have horrendous luck buying shoes off eBay? Luckily, I have extremely narrow feet so these shoes do fit okay but it could've been a really bad scene...

PS - Did you guys see the scrapbook I made for Tavi?! I love that girl.

Nature is a language.

Crop tops are a contentious issue. On one hand, they connote good things like Cher in Clueless. On the other hand, there is this. I choose to take inspiration from neither and head straight to 'Terry' from the epic mockumentary FUBAR. Basically, I just bought a mens XL grey shirt from the thrift store and then stencilled on 'Fuckin' EH' using black fabric paint. Simple and straightforward, like my favourite rednecks from rural Alberta. Oh, and I added my monkey hat and Beetlejuice socks to the outfit for good measure.

Seriously, if you haven't seen this movie yet there is something wrong.

Ask me, I won't say no.

So, the outfit marks my first foray into wearing the epic gem sweater that I thrifted a couple weeks ago. I don't even go into thrift stores looking for weird gem sweaters anymore, they just seem to find me. Its almost like they can sense my presence and know that I can't resist buying them so they always flock the the racks that I like to browse. I'm telling you, its insane!

Anyhoo, I decided to wear it with my XL Nirvana t-shirt, thrifted skirt, thermal socks and Docs. Are you shocked? Pretty much every outfit I wear is a fail safe combination of: weird knitwear, thick socks and Doc Martens. Perhaps I'm in a style rut, but damned if I don't love it!

What Difference Does It Make?

I wore this outfit yesterday and felt really overdressed for a lazy Sunday full of DIYs, homework, and watching mini documentaries about the Smiths, but hey, I love this outfit so why not? I'm pretty much obsessed with this simple but very prim Victorian dress that I bought off of Jayne's store.

Also, it was really cold out so I had to layer these pretty lace tights (a gift from my best friend!) over black tights and then add some thermal socks just to ward off hypothermia!

William, it was really nothing.

Sometime last week, I ventured deep into the bowels of a very clean, very respectable and very heavy-metal tattoo parlour and emerged a changed woman. The ink (if it wasn't obvious already) was inspired by Man Ray's famous photograph of Kiki de Montparnasse.

I'm incredibly happy with the way it turned out. I've wanted a tattoo of f-holes for about three years now, and I figured actually going through with it would be a neat way to commemorate my 20th birthday. It actually means a lot to me, since I've played the violin since I was 6 years old! Plus, I simply think that it is a beautiful motif.

My Favourite Teen-age Subculture

When I got home from class, I was so happy to find a package in my mailbox! It was a book that the lovely Xu of Happenings in Singsong is lending me, and what a book it is!

It's full of all these marvelous photographs taken by Michael Lavigne in the 1980s and 1990s. It runs the gamut from pictures of random Seattle/Olympia punk kids to professional portraits of bands like Nirvana and Hole. Here are some of my favourites:

See the luck I've had...

I was staring at my closet last night, trying to find inspiration but this was the only outfit I could think of. But to be honest, it is definitely my favourite outfit that I've worn in a while! The sweater is Rodarte-inspired, the skirt is a little bit Luella-inspired and the rest of it is just a hodgepodge of textures and prints. Tie dye! Woolly socks! Lions! Tigers! Bears! Oh my!

Oh, not to mention that the topknot hairdo remains in full force. I may not be an effortless Scandinavian beauty, but I sure can try real hard to look like one.

Visionary/Giver/Executive

I've finally returned back to school after a lovely holiday, but I'm glad to be back. The smell of fresh new textbooks makes me really happy, but the price of them does not. Education is awesome and all, but why do I constantly feel like I am being extorted?

Oh well. I've started pulling my hair into a pseudo-topknot almost all the time nowadays and it always makes me feel elegant, even if I'm just wearing leopard jeans, a fish sweater and Doc Martens. Random combination but damned if I don't enjoy it.

First Thrift Finds of the Year

I managed to do some killer thrifting this morning. Yep, you'll never guess what I found.

1. The gem sweater of the CENTURY, this time in cardigan form. See those sequins? It pretty much has my name written all over it.

2. Tacky velvety shirt with leopard print buttons and trim. This is very classy/trashy, which means that of course I think it is awesome.

The grand total was $6. May bad taste prevail in 2010!
