New Year's Resolutions: Must 1) Lose weight, 2) Find hunky boyfriend, 3) Make third installment of film series seven years after last one came out.
Book author Helen Fielding's character of Bridget Jones is, no joke, one of my favorite characters in fiction. She's so open and honest and definitely not your typical heroine. The movies starring Renee Zellweger were pretty good, though as per usual not up the book's standards. Both were based off of Fielding's two books and the first one came out in 2001. After the less-successful sequel came out in 2004, I assumed it was all over. I mean, there were no more books and Renee had lost all of the weight she put on for the role, so what else was there to do?
Apparently Bridesmaids director and Freaks and Geeks producer Paul Feig might have plans to bring back Bridget, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and the repulsive Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) for a third film.
No word on the story (since there isn't a third book to follow) or even if the three main actors will return for this next film. It all seems a bit after the fact for me. Unless Feig plans on making a film about Bridget getting older (Zellweger is currently 42) or maybe her marriage to Mark Darcy? I love the characters, but I think that like the Titanic, that ship has sailed.
