Certain actors and actresses have really popular streaks of producing film after film and then they disappear. What happened? Here are some examples:
Julia Stiles: There was a period of time where Julia Stiles was one of the top actresses in Hollywood. She starred in films like Save the Last Dance, 10 Things I Hate About You and the Bourne series. In fact, the last major film she was in was the Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. From 1999 to 2007 she had a major movie come out almost every year if not twice a year. She's currently playing Ester Greenwood in the film adaptation of The Bell Jar. Is this trying to tell us something? Stiles has a role on the TV show Dexter for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, but after doing so many major projects, it seems a little underwhelming for the actress. Julia, what happened?
Josh Hartnett: Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Wicker Park, 40 Days and 40 Nights and 30 Days of Night... and now nothing but small independent films. What happened to the heart throb that used to hang on my wall and fill every teen magazine? Granted, he's not the most talented actor in Hollywood, but if they accept Keannu Reeves, why not John Hartnett who is significantly more attractive? I found on Wikipedia that Hartnett won the Outstanding Environmentalist Award in 2009...so at least he's making use of his "down time." Josh, what happened?
Hilary Duff: First came Lizzie McGuire, then A Cinderella Story, Raise Your Voice, Cheaper by the Dozen, Cadet Kelly, Agent Cody Banks, various roles on TV shows, a solo album and even a fragrance as Hilary Duff battled Lindsay Lohan for men and roles. Well, Lindsay ended up in rehab and Hilary isn't doing much better for herself. She recently starred in a made-for-TV movie Beauty & the Briefcase (Lindsay was in a similar movie called Labor Pains in which she pretended to be pregnant in order to avoid being fired). It seems the former Disney princess has been replaced with stars like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Miranda Cosgrove. Duff is set to star in The Story of Bonnie and Clyde as Bonnie, but we'll see if it turns out to be anything major. Until then we'll just have to satisfy the Hilary Duff cravings we never had by watching Lizzie McGuire reruns. Hilary, what happened?
Seth Green: Ok, so Seth hasn't quite disappeared as much as the others. He regularly voices characters on the animated shows Robot Chicken, Family Guy and American Dad. But he went through a big film phase and hasn't been in one since. Films such as The Italian Job, Without a Paddle, Rat Race and all of the Austin Powers movies all benefited from Green's sharp humor. And don't get me started on his fantastic role as Oz the werewolf on the hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Seth, I know you still have a lot going for you, but what happened to that film career?
Have any of your favorite actors disappeared?
